The Apra Canada conference will take place in just over six months on October 14-16 — not that we're counting down or anything!
Our bi-annual conference is Apra Canada's premier professional development event and a unique opportunity to meet face-to-face with leaders in the field, vendors and fellow researchers to share knowledge and bring fresh ideas to your research shop. With an emphasis on Canadian content, the 2020 Apra Canada conference will feature inspiring speakers and stimulating education sessions focused on prospect research north of the border.
New this year are lightning talks, hands-on labs, and cross-border collaboration. Did we mention our keynote speakers? We are thrilled to host Kevin MacDonell of CoolData (and Dalhousie University in his day job) and Justin Poy, marketing guru and philanthropist.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates on speakers and registration!
Apra Great Lakes
Apra Great Lakes 2020 Conference in October 2020
Planning for the Apra Great Lakes 2020 Conference on October 15-16 in Chicago is in full swing! We recently announced our keynote speaker — Nathan Fay, associate vice president of prospect development and strategy at City of Hope — who will be presenting a session titled “How to Ride the Data Wave into the C Suite, Elevate Your Program, and Get a Seat at the Table.” Copies of his book, “Precision Prospect Development,” will be given to several lucky conference attendees. Jen Filla has signed on to anchor our New Researcher’s Symposium, and we’re currently recruiting faculty members for additional sessions. Please reach out to Kathryn Thomas if you are interested in serving as a faculty member.
Additionally, we have decided to extend our call for presenters for readers of this newsletter! We are interested in presentations spanning all ability and experience levels and look forward to presentations from across the industry. All submissions are due April 3, 2020 and will be reviewed by the Apra Great Lakes 2020 Conference Programming Committee. Click here for more information.

In February, Apra Northwest members came together virtually to hold the chapter's first Book in Common event. The Book in Common program centers on a topic related to philanthropy and invites members to read a selected book and participate in a virtual discussion. The chapter's first book was “Prediction Machines: The Simple Economics of Artificial Intelligence,” and the topic was artificial intelligence and its impact on fundraising. The chapter was fortunate to have Ashutosh Nandeshwar, assistant vice president of relationship management and data sciences at the University of Southern California, participate as the guest speaker for the event. Ashutosh provided the group with a wonderful presentation on what artificial intelligence is and how it may affect society and fundraising. After Ashutosh's presentation, the group dived into a lively discussion on how their organizations are preparing for and utilizing artificial intelligence.
Jessica Wade, membership director, and Lauren Woodring, programming director, presented on behalf of Apra Pennsylvania at the 2020 Apra Leadership Summit in Chicago. The focus on their presentation was the chapter’s success in growing membership, primarily through the creation of bundled memberships. Additionally, Jessica and Lauren focused on the growth of the chapter due to a fully engaged board of directors and increased programming across Pennsylvania based on member interest. Congratulations to Jessica and Lauren on a successful presentation, and thank you for all of your hard work these past few years.
Apra Pennsylvania continues to offer dynamic programming in 2020. Lauren’s annual goal is to offer 20 events this year! On April 9, Marianne Pelletier of Stauppell Analytics Group will present a webinar on text mining in social media. Visit Apra Pennsylvania’s events page for more details and registration information.
