Catherine Flaatten, MPH, CFRE, is the associate vice president of prospect development at BWF where she partners with clients to develop creative, bespoke solutions to all types of prospect development challenges. Previously, she served in various roles at The George Washington University, most recently as the managing director of research and relationship management. Catherine has also worked in prospect development at Share Our Strength/No Kid Hungry, the National Psoriasis Foundation and the BrightFocus Foundation.
A regular speaker and author within the prospect development community, Catherine currently serves as the immediate past president of Apra Metro DC and is a trustee of the Apra Foundation. Former volunteer roles include chairing the aasp Best Practices in Prospect Development Committee and Apra Membership Committee, as well as serving on the Apra Body of Knowledge Committee and PD Curriculum Planning Committee.
Catherine holds a BA in International Affairs and an MPH in Maternal and Child Health, both from The George Washington University.
Cal Sturgeon is the assistant director of prospect development at City of Hope. They joined the hospital after serving a decade at the Washburn University Alumni Association and Foundation, where they modernized the prospect development shop through innovative research and scoring techniques, portfolio optimization and data analytics. Sturgeon has also created better communication channels with front-line fundraising staff, leading to higher fundraising outcomes.
Sturgeon is an active member of Apra. They currently proudly serve on the Board of Directors. Previously, they have served on the content planning committee for Apra International, as the Apra Midwest conference planning committee’s communication chair and served as the communication director on the Apra Missouri/Kansas board.
