What’re we’re recommending: “Me and White Supremacy: A Guided Journal”
Recommended by: Eli Mendelson
Summary: “Me and White Supremacy” leads readers through a journey of understanding their white privilege and participation in white supremacy, so that they can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on Black, Indigenous and other people of color — and in turn help other white people do better too.
Why we’re recommending it: At City of Hope’s Office of Philanthropy, we have established a safe space where our coworkers can come together to learn, converse and educate each other about matters related to privilege. Our primary focus is to promote awareness of our own privilege. We engage in difficult and honest conversations, where we allow ourselves to be vulnerable in order to become better advocates for marginalized communities. We are currently using Layla Saad’s “Me and White Supremacy: A Guided Journal” to tackle our blind spots to become "perfectly adequate human beings.”
